Ramp Actvity

Social Interest
Cause-and-Effect

This activty came to mind after observing a group of children inquiring about movement and speed of objects down a spontaneously made ramp in the classroom.

How is it made?

This ramp was made out of wood. A base was constructed using wood and screws.

On one side of the ramp...

The inside of a wrapping paper roll was cut in half to create a straight ramp. As the chidlren destroyed this ramp fairly quickly, it was evident that the wrapping paper roll was not strong enough. Next time, I would use a pipe or wood for a more sturdy ramp.

On the other side of the ramp...

Three straight ramps, all made from wood, are nailed at different angles so children could place an object down one ramp or drop it at the top and watch it fall down to the bottom. A reminder would be to leave enough space between ramps so that different sized objects can fit when travelling down.
