"Every Child Needs a Champion"

Rita Pierson TedX

This video has inspired me ever since I decided I wanted to work with children. I have viewed it over and over again whenever I have a hard time finding motivation. Rita Pierson clearly conveys the rewards and importance of being an educator even when things get tough.

"Welcome to Holland" Poem

Author: Emily Perl Kingsley

In one of my second year courses, "Children with Disabilities", I had an assignment where I interviewed an adult that has experience with children with disabilities. I chose to interview a mom who has a four year old boy with autism.

She told me to read this poem that accurately describes how a mother who has a child with disability feels.

I found it inspiring and beautiful. After reading it, I gained a better understanding and new perspective to what it meant to parent a child with a disability.

Legacy: What the all blacks can teach us about the business of life

Author: James Kerr

The All Blacks, New Zealand's national rugby team, are the most successful international men's rugby team of all time and are considered one of the must successful sports teams ever. This book looks in-depth at the team culture and how they have come to be so successful.

This is a book that has inspired me because it breaks down points of good leadership and as a future educator, I have the power to develop great leaders in my classroom and provide the knowledge for young people to grow up into change-makers. Many of the key figures (coaches, mentors, etc.) in this book that had an instrumental influence in the All Blacks culture were, by no coincidence, all teachers at one time.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn about leadership skills and producing, and maintaining a positive culture.

"Tell me and I will forget. Teach me and I will remember . Involve me and I will learn"
