Student Work

1. Examples of Student's Work for Assessment

Gathering journal entries is a form of assessment to determine the level of student's connections to material being taught. In these examples, students were responding to a book that was read.

After watching the story "I Need my Monster" by Amanda Noll, students responded to the question: Which monster was your favourite?

I will use a range of students work to assess learning. I will refer to balanced assessment that includes conversations, products and observations.

2. The Writing Process

In grade 1 persevering through the writing process is a big task. A process that requires focus through all stages: brainstorming, draft writing, editing, conferencing, and good copies. This artifact demonstrates examples of some students writing pieces that were all put in a collective class book to show off their work. They answered the question: What is the best part of you?. This writing activity was inspired by the book "The Best Part of Me" by Wendy Ewald.

Can you guess what the best part of me is? I like my neck because it helps my head and it is good. It helps me eat. It is the best for reading. Thanks for writing with me.

Can you guess what the best part of me is? My mouth helps me do a lot. I like my mouth because I can eat food and I can talk a lot. With my mouth I can bite. Good bye.

Can you guess what the best part of me is? It is my hands. I like my hands because they help me eat. They help me play video games. I can use them to tickle. Thanks.
