Curriculum & Assessment
1. Learning Outcomes Framework
The Nova Scotia Learning Outcomes Framework document is a key resource in creating lesson plans that are grade appropriate and align with the designated provincial outcomes.

Professional Growth Target
I will use the document when planning lessons so ensure my activities align with curriculum, and I will use the document to extend activities and challenge students who may be beyond their grade level.
2. Backwards Design Lesson Planning
The idea behind backwards design is to teach and plan towards the “end goal” or learning point. The premise of backwards design is simple: planning starts with the focus on the end product. For this lesson plan, a grade 1 social studies outcome was chosen.

Starting with the end in mind.

Offering a mix of modes for assessment
so that all students can be engaged.
Assessment as learning. Self-assessment.
Professional Growth Target
I will continue to use the backwards design for lesson planning to ensure the curricular outcome is always at the core of assessment.

3. The Ontario Curriculum: Writing Exemplars Grades 1-8
This is a very useful writing assessment document that I used in my own practicum experience. The document provides comprehensive examples and notes as to which level the writing piece would score at and why. I utilized this in my own teaching practicum and slightly changed some of the words in the rubrics to better suit my class' activity.

Professional Growth Target
Use documents as guides and resources for assessment. Provide students with examples of different writing pieces so they can see what is needed to achieve each level.
