Awareness of School Context:

Community Involvement

1. Big Brothers Big Sisters "Go Girls!" Program

Go Girls! is a group mentoring program for girls ages 12-14 that focuses on healthy relationships, self-esteem and well being. When I was in one of my teaching practicums, I had the opportunity to lead a Go Girls! group in the school I was at. It was a great way to connect with Big Brothers Big Sisters as a community outreach program and learn more about hwat they do in schools. I gained valuable experience learning how to mentor young women and implement programming that was prioritized by their needs as a group.

I used a resource called "Together We Can Implementation Manual" to adapt activties and ideas. To learn more about the "Together We Can" initiative, click here!

I want to learn more about community outreach programs that have connections to schools and who offer programming through the schools.
